Original Pattern Details
- Two versions: table alone or table with light
- Cover states a 4-foot pattern length; the instruction sheet states 6 feet with fringe
- 217 yards of 5–6 mm cord for the table version
- Metal and wood-grain rings plus forty-eight ½-inch beads
- 16-inch wood or glass tabletop
- Optional light version adds cord and historical electrical components
Modern Maker’s Notes
Because the tabletop reveals even small tension differences, the edition emphasizes balancing opposing cords, testing the surface before final knots and treating beads as part of the spacing rhythm. The original 4-foot / 6-foot measurement discrepancy is preserved rather than silently corrected.
Then and Now
The same basic object can move from rustic to graphic depending on cord color, bead finish and tabletop material. The most important feature remains visible suspension: instead of hiding the support system, the macramé becomes the structure the eye reads first.
Modern safety note: The suspended surface creates a load condition and the optional lamp adds an electrical condition. Use modern load-rated anchors, rings and hardware, and treat the printed wiring as historical rather than current electrical guidance.
