Vintage Macramé Hanging Chair
Decorative Macramé — The Knotted Interior • Edition 03: Furniture
The vintage macramé hanging chair shows the technique moving decisively from decoration into furniture. Rings, hoops, hard-twist rope, knotting and a woven seat work together in a six-foot suspended structure.

Modern Maker’s Notes
The source itself distinguishes decorative knot sequences from filler cords that remain load-bearing. The Heritage Edition explains why cord order, hoop level, settling and the woven seat should be treated as structural decisions rather than decorative details.
Then and Now
Natural rope and simple cushions preserve the relaxed character of the original. A modern maker might change color, upholstery or surrounding decor, but the chair’s load path and suspension geometry should not be treated casually.
Important modern safety note: A finished appearance does not establish a safe load rating. Use new hardware and rope with documented structural properties, verify anchors and attachment points independently, and do not rely on vintage specifications alone for human load-bearing use.
