Vintage Macramé Room Divider — Tanglewood

Decorative Macramé — The Knotted Interior • Edition 01: Space

A vintage macramé room divider becomes architecture in Tanglewood. This 1970s design combines cord, redwood boards, dowels and beads into a suspended screen measuring approximately 4 feet wide by 6 feet 8 inches long.

What You Receive

You receive a Dazespast Heritage Edition of the complete Tanglewood Room Divider pattern, with the historical instructions preserved in sequence and new editorial pages that explain the structure, materials, spacing and modern installation considerations.

Original Pattern Details

  • Finished size: approximately 4 ft. × 6 ft. 8 in.
  • Natural, rust and dark-brown 5 mm five-ply cord / jute
  • Nine redwood boards and sixteen ½-inch dowels
  • Ninety-six wood beads
  • Square knots, double half hitches, beads and repeated wood sections

Modern Maker’s Notes

Tanglewood depends on measurement and repeated geometry. The Heritage Edition discusses matching cord by diameter and grip, choosing straight dimensionally stable wood, pre-fitting bead and dowel holes, controlling vertical tension and using a temporary spacing gauge so the full screen stays square.

Then and Now

The original photograph places the divider inside a warm 1970s wood interior, but the structure does not require a period room. Natural cord with pale wood can feel quiet and contemporary; dark cord and stained wood can emphasize the graphic grid. The architectural idea remains the same: macramé is being used to define space.

Modern installation note: Historic hooks and suspension instructions should be treated as archival information. Select modern anchors and hardware appropriate to the actual wall, ceiling or opening and the finished weight.
