The Sophisticate is one of the stylish crochet hat patterns found the Russell Fraser Wire Company pattern book titled Fraser Hats Bags & Belts, published in 1938. The Sophisticate Hat Russell Fraser Wire Company, 1938 Materials List: 4 tubes “Raphael Brand” Gimp 1 1/2 Yards of 1″ Grosgrain Ribbon Stitches: Use Single Crochet throughout picking up back look only. Gauge: A number 4 steel crochet hook is recommended for the one who crochets tightly. A number 6 is recommended for one who crochets loosely. It is best to crochet fairly tight to obtain firmness and body. This is especially important on hats in order to obtain the correct head size from the instructions as given. All instructions are for hats of 22-inch head size. Special Note: If the Gimp is crushed slightly on the tube, steam the finished article slightly or dip it in warm water. this will fluff up Gimp to its natural size. Hang to dry.   Instructions CROWN: Ch 13. 1st row: Make 2 sc’s in second ch from hook, 1 sc in each of the next 10 chs, 2 sc’s in last ch.
